I bought the game when it was released, solely on it being a Psygnosis name and I was not disappointed and liked most of the game phases it leads the player through. Looking back at it however, it is clear that the overall experience feels a bit disjointed: the game lacks some overarching structure and as you said some phases are a bit weird. It probably needed a little bit more of glueing material but nevertheless can be quite fun to play.
The big box it came in also contained a t-shirt with fantastic artwork which I wore for almost a decade until time literally tore it apart. 😉
I wonder if video games will ever be sold with enclosed t-shirts again.
