World exclusive CD32 TV footage!

Apparently the first time the Commodore CD32 was showcased on TV anywhere in the world was on the kids’ Saturday morning, magazine-style show, Gimme 5. I did have a link to the YouTube video in which this claim was made, but it has since been removed, making this post a bit pointless. Nevermind, we’ll soldier on regardless. Gimme 5 was a sort of second-rate Going Live with presenters you’d never heard of, and a bi-pedal talking sheep called Nobby… I kid you not!

Even so, it ran for three series and the host, Jenny Powell, notable for having a cute voice and being attractive went on to have a cute voice and be attractive elsewhere. She also married a millionaire, had two daughters and then got divorced.

I’d take the CD32 boast with a pinch of salt; they also claim that Diggers is “reputed to be the biggest game ever for any console”, and we know that to be a mega-fib because this honour goes to Dangerous Streets!

In an imaginary would where I have unlimited free time, I'd love to do a deep dive into 80's British live action TV shows for kids, just to see how different it was than what we got here. Here's an example of a time I remember a computer was featured on a kid's show here.

I'd lap that up if you did – there's gold in them there hills.

Quite a contrast there. The emphasis seems to be very much on the 'edu' in edutainment. Quite advanced stuff for kids' TV. We got a bit of this from Bad Influence, but they did at least try to jazz it up to grab you're attention.

…Speaking of which, Violet and Andy from BI covered the CD32 launch too so I'll have to go back and refresh my memory. I wonder if they claimed the exclusive as well. I'd be more inclined to believe them if they did.
