Retro Gaming Advent Calendar – 2nd December

December 2nd. Home Alone ? NES

There are many Classic Christmas films, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful life, A Christmas Carol, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and of course the romantic Christmas classic Bad Santa, but for me nothing beats a small boy inflicting permanent damage on a couple of burglars and thanks to this NES classic you can join the fun.

I saw this film in my local independent cinema before it was killed off by the Odean, and long before Macaulay Culkin discovered class A drugs. Great times! It's now a dance studio. The sequel was ace too. I wonder how much of an impact his relationship with Michael Jackson had on his development.

There's an Amiga game based on the movie too, although it's not well regarded to say the least.

Did your local cinema also have those great local adverts for the local curry house or ladies hairdressers ?
I miss that level of crapness

Absolutely. So surreal bookending Hollywood glitz and glamour with mundane reality like that. Somehow it added to the experience regardless. 😀

Ours had a 'major' and a 'minor' screen. Which one you watched a film on depended on how popular it was. The last film I watched there was Superman Returns in the smaller room. There was only me, my dad and a couple of kids in there at the time, though I think that was more a reflection of how busy the newer Odean was.
