I've always liked R.E.M.'s Shiny Happy People, but only if I don't watch it accompanied by that awful video!

I think some of the supposedly deeper, darker meaning may have been appended *after* critics laid into it, but according to Michael Stipe it's an ironic allusion to the Tienanmen Square uprising where the line was used on propaganda posters.

I've also heard that the title is a reference to the over-subscription of Prozac, Shiny Happy People being a slang term for folks who are artificially at one with the world.

Re: similarly themed games, check out Sensible Software's Sex 'n' Drugs 'n' Rock 'n' Roll. You can't play it because it was never released. Extremely interesting saga nevertheless.

Congrats on the retro Pi project – very cool. I never thought you'd actually go through with it when the gauntlet was thrown down. It looks like I underestimated you, Aaron. Shame on me! 😀
