Glad you appreciate my latest rambles. I think I've found my niche; obscure trivia and weirdness no-one else has covered… possibly for good reasons!

Researching the game compo story I came across a really old newsgroup question from an AF reader. He was asking a member of staff when the results would be out. Even this insider didn't have a clue – he told him to ask the editor instead. No wonder it was such a struggle getting to the bottom of it.

I don't claim to know the first thing about the Apple II so won't argue with you re: the sound limitations. Luckily I do remember exactly where I found that info though. I took it from a 'making of Karateka' vid Jordan Mechner put together in the run up to releasing the remake.

Here's the music and sfx segment. The key moment starts 1 minute in…

Whatever the truth is could make for another interesting research project.

Anyway it's useful to have you as a sounding board to point out when something seems off kilter.

Archive.org is a fantastic resource for old mag scans. Virtually everything you could want is available. What made 'Info' stand out from the crowd for you guys? I'd never heard of it until now.

Oh, Aaron and I will definitely watch that video before we record next week's ep. THE TRUTH WILL BE REVEALED! The Info scans were tweeted about by Microsoft podcaster Paul Thurrot, and I just happened to pick it up on his feed, no other reason.

I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip. Totally by chance today I came across some nifty Amiga pixel art which appeared in the same mag… http://www.gregconley.com/bryce.htm

Good point re: the playfield size. It can feel a bit hemmed in at times I agree. Imagine how the game might have played with Sensible sized sprites and greater visibility of the pitch. We could have had a Sensible Speedball or Speedball Fodder mash-up!

You know I'd never given much thought to the lack of brutality until you mentioned it. Bit of a bold claim that subtitle given there's no blood, guts or death. I feel really deprived now. Someone should have contacted trading standards. 😉
